In 1995, a dedicated group of volunteers began restoring Hornet to serve as a centerpiece for the base closure of Naval Air Station Alameda. As restoration continued, the non-profit Aircraft Carrier Hornet Foundation was formed. The group was successful in opening Hornet as a museum in 1998.

This beautiful challenge coin commemorates the tireless efforts of all her helped ensure her new future. Design elements include the space capsule she helped recover and the catch phrase she uses today, "Honoring the Past; Serving the Present; Inspiring the Future."

Coin is 2 inches in diameter and roughly 3/8th inches thick.
