8 Ships Named Hornet

Eight ships have carried the proud name - HORNET. The early six defended our freedom from the Revolutionary through the Civil War. The seventh Hornet launched the famed Doolittle Raid on Tokyo, fought at Midway & was lost at Guadalcanal. The eight and final Hornet holds an outstanding WWII record as one of the most decorated ships of the United States Navy. She is also famous for the recoveries of both Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 astronauts following the first man landing on the moon.
